IMPHAL: A decomposed body of an unidentified male was discovered at Imphal River near Sanjen-thong on January 16, around 9:35 am.

Upon investigation by a mobile Forensic Science unit and an Executive Magistrate, a team from Porompat police station retrieved the body and transported it to the JNIMS mortuary.

According to a press release from the Officer-in-Charge of Porompat police station, if the body remains unclaimed by 1 pm on January 22, it will be disposed of with permission from the competent authority.

The man who died was about 163 cm (5'4") tall, but other details couldn’t be figured out because the body had decomposed. He was wearing one hunting boot, a red cap, a blue T-shirt, a white jacket, a grey and brown collared shirt, grey pants, and dark blue half-pants.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Police in Gangtok investigated the cause of a man's death after he was discovered dead inside his car at the Deorali Taxi Stand on New Year's Day.

On the morning of January 1, Laku Tshering Sherpa’s body was found unconscious in his taxi. His brother-in-law, Jonathan Rai, was told by another family member and then called the police.

The police started an official investigation under Section 194 of the BNSS Act, 2023, and filed FIR No. 01/2025. After doing an autopsy, the authorities gave Sherpa's body back to his family.
