Manipur Faces Dengue Outbreak Along With Assam

IMPHAL: As the outbreak of dengue led to the government of Assam taking serious safety measures, the state of Manipur is also heading towards the same fate with as many as 375 confirmed cases from the state. This is the highest recorded number of cases till date. The previous record was for 359 cases in the year 2019.

According to reports from the health department of the state, the majority of the cases are not of the severe conditions. But three people in the state have already lost their lives to this disease. Another five people are currently being treated for dengue in different hospitals across the state.

All the cases of dengue in the state have been reported from twelve out of a total of sixteen districts from the state of Manipur. Out of these twelve districts, Tengnoupal records the highest with 200 cases. It is followed by Churachandpur with 51 cases, Imphal East with 47 cases and Imphal West with 40 cases of dengue fever.

Bishnupur and Thoubal have reported ten cases each, Kangpokpi has eight victims, Kakching has three, Chandel and Ukhrul have two each and one case each from Senapati and Tamenglong districts of Manipur. As per the report Jiribam, Kamjong, Noney and Pherzawl districts of the state have not reported any infections yet.

"These cases were reported from across 12 districts after detection started from the early part of June this year. However, there is nothing to panic as the state health authority is taking up all possible measures to control the disease," Mentioned Dr AR Chisti from the health department of the state. He is also the state malaria officer tasked with the duty of handling mosquito-borne diseases in the state.

Because of a large number of positive cases detected in the Karbi Anglong district of the state of Assam, the district administration declared a one-week holiday for all educational institutions in Diphu.
