
IMPHAL: Tensions flared in Manipur on Thursday, December 28, as suspected militants opened fire on the peripheral areas from the elevated terrain of Kangpokpi district. The incident resulted in the injury of one journalist and boosted security concerns in the region.
The attack occurred in Thamnapokpi, which falls under the Imphal East district. Here, a video journalist from a local media house called Impact TV, identified as Leimapokpam Kabichandra, was struck by a bullet in his thigh.
According to preliminary reports, the firing is suspected to have come from Kuki militants who initiated their attack from hilltops in Kangpokpi district. The reasons behind the attack are not known, and further investigations are being carried out.
After the incident, Kabichandra has been taken to Raj Medicity and is under treatment. He is reported to be stable.
After the attack, security officials have increased operations in the districts to reduce further violence as well as the safety of citizens. The intensity of patrolling has increased, and strategic measures to counter militant activities within the region are being implemented.
