CHURACHANDPUR: Manipur governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla visited Churachandpur today. Bhalla, who was sworn in as the Manipur Governor earlier this month, inaugurated the Information Technology (IT) Centre at Churachandpur College. After inaugurating the centre, Governor Bhalla interacted with the students and gave patient hearing to their suggestions as well as issues faced by the students.
During his interaction with the students, the Manipur Governor asserted that the government is taking steps to restore peace and normalcy soon. "Students are the next generation of this country. We don't want them to suffer," he assured.
After the event at Churachandpur College, Governor Bhalla met representatives of local groups and organizations. The governor is also likely to visit some relief centres like the Sadbhavna Mandap at Tuibong before returning to Imphal.
Meanwhile, Wildlife Institute of India (WII) scientist R. Suresh Kumar has reported that one of the two satellite-tagged Amur Falcons (Falco amurensis), named ‘Chiuluan2’ after a village in Manipur’s Tamenglong district, reached South Africa on Saturday after successfully crossing the Kalahari Desert.
The bird reached its first stopover in Somalia after an uninterrupted flight across the Arabian Sea, which it completed in five days and 17 hours. Kumar stated, "The region in South Africa where ‘Chiuluan2’ arrived on Saturday is technically known as the African Veldt and is located about 360 km west of Johannesburg.”
