Manipur: Indian Army Recovers Huge Explosive in Imphal, Averted Major Threat

IMPHAL: In the midst of an ongoing crisis in Manipur, normalcy slowly returning to the state. However, on Wednesday, in Imphal East district, Manipur, an Indian Army patrol recovered huge explosives including 15 electric detonators, four circuits, and remote firing devices.

According to the report, army personnel said, “Indian Army Patrol operating along foothills of Imphal East district recovered explosives and Remote Initiation Mechanism for IEDs in Village Bungbal Khullen on Wednesday. Three kilograms of TNT, 15 electric detonators, four circuits, and remote firing devices have also been found.”

He further added, “Area Domination and offering solace and medical assistance to people are being undertaken by multiple long duration patrols day and night by the Army and Assam Rifles columns. These patrols aptly serve as a conduit for communicating problems faced and ensuring early redressed.”

Recently, an Assam Rifle jawan who was shot by miscreants while patrolling in Manipur succumbed to bullet injuries on May 17.

Trucks transporting crucial goods including rice, sugar, and pulses to Imphal Valley, however, have resumed their journey after being protected by the Indian Army. However, Manipur is experiencing an average 40% shortfall of life-saving pharmaceuticals due to the blockage of National Highway No. 2, which has brought the state to a severe scarcity of life-saving drugs. Manipur Chemists and Druggists Association have urged chemist organizations to act quickly to address this urgent issue.

However, 14 truck carrying essential medicine is still struck in Guwahati and 12 trucks are stranded between Mao and Senapati. However, few pharmaceutical companies have resorted to airlifting pharmaceuticals, but the volume of consignments is limited, making this a temporary solution.

According to Indian Army, “On May 15, a convoy of 28 vehicles including trucks, fuel tankers, and JCB carrying rice, sugar, pulses, and fuel moved under the escort of CRPF and Manipur Police from Noney to Imphal. Prophylactic domination of the area was provided by Assam Rifles to ensure safe passage to the convoy which reached Imphal safely by afternoon.”

Meanwhile, vehicle movement has been restored in the state.
