
IMPHAL: In a significant step towards restoring peace and stability in the region, a joint operation led by Assam Rifles, CRPF and Manipur Police resulted in the voluntary surrender of weapons and ammunition in Jiribam on 02 March 2025.
Following the imposition of President’s Rule and the appeal made by the Governor of Manipur, security forces engaged extensively with community leaders and civil society organizations to facilitate the safe surrender of illegally held weapons. As a result, many weapons and ammunition were voluntarily surrendered including: five country made single barrel guns, one Magnum 12 Bore double-barrel gun, twenty-seven 12 Bore cartridges, sixteen 7.62x51mm rounds, fifteen 7.62x39mm rounds, two 5.56mm rounds along with one magazine each of AK47 and SLR.
Assam Rifles has been instrumental in recovery of a huge cache of arms and ammunition in Jiribam and its neighbouring areas. The surrender reflects the trust placed in the security forces and the Government’s efforts in conflict resolution, furthering the path towards reconciliation and lasting peace in the region.
Meanwhile, In the past 10 days, approximately 690 firearms have been surrendered to authorities in Manipur, with 62 looted weapons and a significant cache of ammunition returned in the last 24 hours alone across Imphal West, Churachandpur, Imphal East, Bishnupur, and Tamenglong districts.
Additionally, security personnel conducting ongoing search operations in Imphal West district have recovered several more arms and a substantial quantity of ammunition.
