Imphal: On Sunday, a journalist who is a resident of Thoubal district was allegedly beaten up by about 20 workers of the Congress party. The journalist works as a correspondent for a vernacular daily.

This incident of violence occurred in the Thoubal district of Manipur. An FIR has been filed against the 20 Congress workers in the local police station.

The journalist who has been identified as Elangbam Rameshwar works as a correspondent for a newspaper that is published from Imphal called Elangbam Rameshwar.

Ramseshwar's house was raided by a group of about 20 men who are alleged workers of the Block Congress under the constituency of Heirok in the district of Thoubal.

As per reports, the group of 20 Congress workers thrashed Rameshwar in his residence right in front of his family members. He was immediately admitted to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. 

Rameshwar also serves as Thoubal District Journalists' Union's vice-president. The union has condemned the attack and demanded strict action against the culprits.

The locals have also demanded justice for the journalist and have blocked the Heirok rock in protest against the crime.

The police have registered a case in connection to the crime and are now investigating the matter.

No arrests have been made so far by the police in connection to the case.
