IMPHAL: In a recent development and in reaching another milestone an engine arrived at the newly constructed Khongsang railway station in Manipur under the leadership of Prime Ministry Modi.

On Monday 14 March, as part of the trial run, a passenger train engine in Manipur reached Khongsang railway station in the Noney district of Manipur.

The engine after the arrival on Monday was beautifully welcomed by traditional Manipuri dance by Manipuri women.

The video of the women welcoming the train at the new railway station went viral on social media within a short period of time after it was shared by the Ministry of Railways.

The train engine under the Jiribam-Imphal Railway line project has been operated newly as an initiative for the improvement of railway connectivity that can benefit the people from the northeastern states of India.

Apart from the improvement in connectivity across the Northeast, the station in Manipur will immensely boost the economy of the state as well.

According to reports, the officials led by the Northeast frontier railways chief engineer Sandeep Sharma accompanied the train on its first run.

The engine on Tuesday started from Jiribam and stopped at Khongshang bypassing Rani Gaidinliu of Kaimai and Thingou railway stations and covered a distance of about 62 kilometres.

Locals of the area were already set to welcome the train before its arrival and as the train reached the ladies express happiness by performing dance forms of the Rongmei tribe.

The Ministry of Railways took to social media to share the video of the train welcomed at Khongshang station and stated that through this initiative the northeast railway connectivity gets a boost.

The chief minister of the state Manipur N Biren also informed about the development through his Twitter account by stating the objectives in the implementation of the proposed plan under the visionary leadership of PM Modi.

Notably, the 111-km Imphal-Jiribam railway line on the process of construction at an estimated cost of Rupees 14,322 crore approximately is expected to be completed by December 2023.
