
IMPHAL: In a major crackdown, Manipur Police have arrested five individuals in connection with a viral video that has sparked widespread concern on social media platforms like YouTube, WhatsApp, and Facebook.
A recently surfaced video shows 10-15 people in camouflage outfits, along with others in football jerseys, carrying advanced firearms at K. Gamnomphai Village Ground. The incident happened during a football match in K. Gamnomphai Village, which falls under Saitu Sub-Division and is overseen by G. Saparmeina Police Station in Kangpokpi District.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Baemang (26), Mangtinlen Kipgen (24), Seithenmang Kipgen (28), Lunminsei Kipgen (21), and Lunkhogin Kipgen (24).
Authorities are investigating to find out why the weapons were displayed in public. Law enforcement is keeping a close watch on the situation, and more action will be taken as the investigation continues.
Meanwhile, the bomb detection squad of the Manipur police had successfully defused two high-explosive grenades near the residence of former Manipur Minister Bijoy Koijam in Imphal West district on Wednesday morning.
According to police reports, the grenades had been discovered around 6 AM outside the residential gate of Bijoy Koijam at Thongju Pheijaleitong, under the jurisdiction of Singjamei police station. During a further search of the area, another grenade had been found near the residence.
