Manipur Police Arrest Militants; Arms And Ammunition Recovered

Manipur Police arrested two militants linked to RPF/PLA and KCP factions, seizing arms and ammunition during extensive operations in the region.

IMPHAL: Manipur Police arrested an active member of the proscribed group RPF/PLA on Monday. The arrested individual was identified as 56-year-old Shamurailatpam Bipin Sharma, also known as Nanda.

He was arrested at Khongman Mangjil, Zone-I, Imphal East, where Sharma used to allegedly extort money from the general public, government personnel, and institutions. Authorities seized a mobile phone from his possession during the operation.

In a separate incident, security forces arrested Chongtham Manglemjao Meitei, who goes by multiple aliases including KK Nganba and Kangleikhonba Nganba, aged 70. He is reported to be the self-styled chairman of the KCP (KK Nganba) faction. Alongside him, another cadre of the same outfit, Laishram Manglemba Singh, aged 57, was also arrested in Langol Ningthou Leikai, located under the jurisdiction of Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West District.

In addition to these arrests, security forces conducted extensive search operations across vulnerable areas in both hill and valley districts. During these operations, a substantial cache of arms and ammunition was discovered in T. Khullen village, under the New Keithelmanbi Police Station in Kangpokpi District. The recovered items included an HK Automatic Rifle with a magazine, three country-made rifles, a single-barrel bolt-action rifle, two pistols, a mortar, five mortar bombs, a Kenwood Motorola handset, and various rounds of ammunition.
