Manipur Police Arrest Three Arambai Tenggol Members for Extortion, Seize Arms and Ammunition

Three men linked to the Arambai Tenggol group were arrested in Imphal East for extortion, with police recovering weapons and incriminating documents.

IMPHAL: The Manipur Police apprehended three men who claimed to be members of the Arambai Tenggol (AT) group in connection with extortion activities in Imphal East.

The operation, conducted jointly by the police and central forces, resulted in the recovery of arms, ammunition, a four-wheeler, and incriminating documents.

According to a police report, the operation was launched following specific intelligence that armed miscreants were active in and around Kshetrigao Sabal Leikai in Imphal East, planning to carry out illegal activities.

During the surprise raid on Monday, three suspected AT members were arrested while attempting to extort money from the public and government officials and threatening local residents. The arrested individuals were later identified as members of AT, a radical Meitei armed group engaged in both socio-cultural and militant activities.

The arrested suspects were identified as Ningombam Lemba Singh (25), Mangshatabam Poireinganba Meitei (21), and Laishram Bidyas Singh (21). During the operation, authorities seized a Ghatak rifle with one magazine and five live rounds, a .32 caliber country-made pistol with a magazine, three mobile phones, a four-wheeler, and other incriminating materials.

Meanwhile, earlier today, The Manipur Police arrested four individuals, including a juvenile, from Kshetrigao Sabal Leikai, Imphal East District, on Sunday.

The arrested individuals were identified as Ningombam Lemba Singh (25), Mangshatabam Poireinganba Meitei (21), and Laishram Bidyas Singh (21). The fourth individual, a juvenile, has been apprehended and is being handled in accordance with the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.

During the operation, the police seized a cache of weapons and other items, which included a Ghatak rifle with a magazine and five live rounds, as well as a country-made pistol.

The accused also possessed a 32-inch pistol with a magazine and a four-wheeled vehicle. The authorities also accused the suspects of posing a threat to the general public in the area, thereby raising concerns about residents' security.
