
IMPHAL: In a major breakthrough, the Manipur Police recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition from Thoubal district on Saturday. The recovery included a variety of weapons and explosives: one single bore barrel (Sniper), one country-made rifle, one Amogh carbine magazine, three .303 magazines, one HE hand grenade, one detonator, five 7.62 x 39mm live rounds, six .32 live rounds, one 9mm live round, six .303 empty cases, four 7.62mm (SLR) empty cases, six 7.62 x 39mm empty cases, one green smoke 80MK1, two stun shells (N), three tear smoke shells, three TYT radio sets with antennas, three chargers, and one adaptor.
These items were seized during a search operation and area domination carried out by security forces in the foothills of Ushoipokpi under the Lilong Police Station in Thoubal.
This recovery follows an earlier operation on December 31, 2024, where the police seized two 9mm pistols with magazines, one carbine with a magazine, one .303 rifle modified as a sniper with a scope sight, three single-barrel guns, twelve 9mm ammunition rounds, two single-barrel ammunition rounds, four hand grenades, one Baofeng wireless set, and one smoke grenade in Imphal West district.
Meanwhile, earlier last week, security forces recovered 19 weapons, ammunition, and war-like stores from various districts in ethnic strife-hit Manipur during a series of joint operations between January 6 and January 9.
The recoveries were made in the districts of Thoubal, Kangpokpi, Churchandpur, and Kakching. These joint operations were carried out by the Assam Rifles, under the operational control of the Indian Army, in coordination with Manipur Police.
