IMPHAL: The Imphal West has witnessed tensions mount as large-scale protests erupted outside the Leimakhong Army Camp of the 57th Mountain Division. The cause is the mysterious disappearance of Kamalbabu Laishram, a supervisor of the Military Engineering Cell, on November 25.

Kamalbabu Laishram, a respected member of his community and a dedicated military engineer, was last seen entering the Leimakhong Army Camp on the day of his disappearance.

According to official entry records, Laishram entered the facility on November 25; however, no corresponding exit records have been found, leading to growing concerns and suspicions regarding his whereabouts.

Laishram Ongbi Koijam Bellorani, the wife of the missing person Laishram, cried and shared her emotions while protesting against the incident. "It was informed to me in the evening that my husband is lost. The phone is out of charge. I want to see my husband alive, and they have the responsibility of tracking him as he is lost there within the campus," Bellorani was sobbing as she went to the protest grounds.

Supposed family members and community leaders are demanding answers concerning the disappearance. Some of the chants include "57th Mountain Division, down down!" and "We want Kamalbabu alive!": Demonstrators were accusing the army of being negligent and putting into people's minds that there were foul plays, even without evidence being provided to prove this claim.

The case has been widely covered by local media and human rights groups, which are closely watching the developments. Human rights advocates have demanded a transparent and comprehensive investigation into Laishram's disappearance, highlighting accountability and the protection of people in military camps.

Representatives of the 57th Mountain Division have yet to say anything officially about the disappearance of Kamalbabu Laishram. Protesters and observers alike have called upon military officials to give timely updates, ensuring that all avenues were being pursued to locate Laishram.

As the days pass with no confirmed news regarding Laishram's fate, the Imphal West community remains on high alert. The protests are a manifestation of the societal concern about the treatment of individuals inside military camps and what effective mechanism is in place to address such critical issues.

The authorities are still investigating, and the community is hopeful that Laishram will be returned safely and that justice will be served. The case calls for greater transparency and trust between military institutions and the communities they serve.
