

IMPHAL: On the final day of the Governor's appeal for the surrender of illegal arms and ammunition, residents of Manipur voluntarily handed over a total of 196 weapons and various amunitions. This initiative spanned several districts, including Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Imphal East, Imphal West, Kakching, Jiribam and Pherzawl.
Police stations in Churachandpur District also reported substantial contributions. At the OC-CCP office, the surrendered weapons were two S/BRL rifles, four Pompi guns, two pistols, three bombs and four tear gas grenades. The OC-Sangaikot office received a variety of weapons, including four improvised high-power mortars, twelve improvised mortar shells, a long-range local missile, a country-made SLR with a magazine and two Baofeng wireless sets.
Further, the OC-Churachandpur/PS office reported the surrender of several single-barrel rifles, three Pompies, and two improvised explosive devices each weighing approximately 2 kg.
In Kakching District, the OC-Kakching/PS office documented a mixed range of items, such as a 7.62 SLR Rifle 1A1 pair, ten single-barrel guns, one double-barrel gun, and three country-made pistols. The surrender also comprised a 9mm pistol, magazines, and a large quantity of live ammunition, including 43 rounds of.303, 26 rounds of AK-47, and 23 HE grenades, among others. This collaborative endeavor highlights the response of the community to the constant calls for disarmament and increased security in the area.
