
IMPHAL: In a major operation, security forces carried out searches in the vulnerable areas of the hill and valley districts of Manipur. The operation, which aimed to improve security and stop illegal activities, led to the recovery of several dangerous weapons and explosives.
During the search in Phougakchao Mamang Leikai, near the Khuga River in Bishnupur District, security forces found several weapons and explosives. They recovered an AK-47 rifle with a magazine holding five live rounds, a 2-inch mortar, and two SMG carbines with empty magazines. They also recovered two homemade 9mm pistols, each with a magazine.
In addition, security forces recovered three HE hand grenades without detonators, which could be a serious threat. They also discovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 20 sticks of explosive gelatine, and five live rounds of 9mm ammunition. All these items were recovered from an area under the Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, in a significant operation, Manipur security forces had arrested one active member of the National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) on February 1. The arrested individual had been identified as Meitram Somorjit Singh (50), also known as Pibare, Tachou, or Ebai from Khumbong Bazar under Patsoi-PS, Imphal West District.
From his possession, the following items had been recovered: one .32 pistol along with one magazine loaded with two 7.65 mm rounds, five mobile handsets, one PAN card, one voter card, one driving license, and one wallet containing a sum of Rs. 8,000.
Similarly, the security forces in another operation had arrested three individuals associated with the radical Meitei group Arambai Tenggol for allegedly collecting extortion money in the Imphal West district.
