Imphal: On the recommendation of Manipur's Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Governor Najma Heptullah today accepted the removal of 3 Ministers from the Council of Ministers.

"With reference to your letter dated September 23, 2020, I have accepted the dropping of the following Ministers from the Council of Ministers as proposed therein," the Governor wrote in a letter to the Chief Minister.

The three Ministers dropped from the Biren Singh-led Cabinet are V Hangkhalian (Minister for Agriculture, Veterinary, and Animal Husbandry), Nemcha Kipgen (Minister for Social Welfare and Cooperation), and Radheshyam Singh (Minister for Education, Labour, and Employment).

After the dropping of the trio, the Chief Minister is likely to induct some new names into his Cabinet.

According to reports, Singh had discussed the rejig with the party's central leadership.

It needs mention here that Singh had earlier won the confidence motion via voice vote in the Manipur Assembly, thereby enabling him to retain the BJP-led coalition Government. Singh won 28-16 in the House.

Previously, the BJP-led government in Manipur led by N Biren Singh was pushed to the brink after nine MLAs, including three of the BJP, withdrew their support.

Four lawmakers of National People's Party (NPP), an independent, and a TMC MLA are others who backed out of the government, leading to a major political crisis in Manipur.
