The reports also state that the Shirui Lily Festival was earlier scheduled to be hosted in the month of May, but it had to be postponed as the Election Commission enforced the Model Code of Conduct during the Lok Sabha election.

The meeting also discussed other relevant important matters like the tentative dates, identification of venues and formation of district-level coordination committees which will be responsible for holding the Shirui Lily Festival.

The main objective of the festival is to spread awareness on the need to conserve the endangered state flower ‘Shirui Lily’. This particular flower also represents the hill district Ukhrul as a potential tourist destination.

Last year, the festival was held as a five-day-long festival by the state tourism department that was held from April 24 to 28. Tourists coming from across the country witnessed the event.

As Ukhrul is the home to state flower ‘Shirui Lily’, promotion of the flower opens a new door for the Manipur village which is located at a distance of about 83 km east of capital Imphal.
