IMPHAL: Unidentified miscreants on Wednesday planted an explosive at the entrance of ICICI Bank’s Singjamei branch in the Imphal West district of Manipur.

The bank's security personnel recovered the explosive, a hand grenade, at around 9 am. Upon receiving the information, a team from the Singjamei police station and the bomb detection and disposal squad promptly rushed to the scene.

The bank near National Highway 102 restricted vehicle and pedestrian movement for approximately 30 minutes. The bomb disposal squad removed the hand grenade at around 10 am. No group or individual has claimed responsibility for planting the explosive so far.

Police stated that they have registered a case in this regard and are currently conducting an investigation to apprehend the perpetrators. The discovery of an explosive near a business establishment in Manipur is the second such incident in the past 38 hours.

Meanwhile, authorities discovered a hand grenade and a threat letter outside the office of a popular snacks manufacturing unit in the Bishnupur district on Tuesday. Later, the staff and employees of the company staged a sit-in protest at the office gate in response to the bomb threat.

The protesters held placards that read, “We condemn the bomb planted in crowded areas” and “We demand immediate clarification regarding the reason for the bomb placed at our office gate.” However, the police stated that they had registered a case in this regard.
