IMPHAL: Manipur Wushu athletes have made a great impression at the 38th National Games held in Uttarakhand, bringing home a total of 17 medals, which include seven gold, eight silver, and two bronze. This impressive performance underscores the state's strength in the sport.

On the final day of the competition, Manipur added to its medal count with two gold and two silver medals. Hemam Robinson triumphed in the Men’s 52kg Sanda category, while Yumlembam Echantombi Devi excelled in Women’s Qiangshu, both securing gold. Silver medals were claimed by Thokchom Jodajit Singh in the Men’s 85kg Sanda and Hamom Sanayaima Singh in the Men’s 56kg Sanda.

Throughout the tournament, which took place at the Kakchenjunga Hall, MPSC, Dehradun, Manipur had already accumulated 13 medals prior to the final day, consisting of five gold, six silver, and two bronze. A total of 39 Wushu players from Manipur, including 20 women, participated in the five-day event.

Since Wushu was introduced at the National Games in 2007 in Guwahati, it has emerged as one of Manipur’s strongest sports. The state has also produced four Arjuna Award winners in this discipline. In previous National Games, Manipur secured nine gold, four silver, and two bronze medals at the 37th edition in Goa and six gold, five silver, and two bronze at the 36th edition in Gujarat.
