A woman from the Northeastern state of Manipur faces sexual harassment in Southwest Delhi while returning from Safdarjung. The incident took place on the intervening night of 10 and 11 December.

NEW DELHI: In the increasing crime of sexual harassment against women in the country, another woman from the northeastern state of Manipur faced harassment in the south part of the national capital Delhi on the night between 10 December and 11 December.

According to reports the Manipuri woman was returning back from the Safdarjung hospital area of Delhi and heading towards Neb Sarai. On her way, she stopped at a shop in the area of South Delhi to buy something where a gang noticed her and started passing sexual remarks.

A group of bikers surrounded her and allegedly passed sexual-colored tempting comments on the lady making her feel uncomfortable and unsafe. After the incident an FIR has been filed against those accused bikers under Indian Penal Code sections 342, 323 and 509.

IPC Section 323 is meant for Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt, section 342 for wrongful confinement and section 509 for intending to insult the modesty of any woman, utters any word, makes any sound or gesture, or exhibit any object. Other information is ascertained and an investigation on the incident is going on to find out the accused bikers.

Earlier this year in the month of July a 30 years old woman from Darjeeling along with her friends were allegedly harassed by a group of men in the village area of Hauz Khas Village in the southwest part of the national capital Delhi. A case was filed and Delhi police initiated a detailed inquiry leading to the arrest of the 5 accused which were identified as residents of Madhya Pradesh.

As per reports, from the states of Northeast 60 percent of women have migrated to four metros for different reasons some for studies, some for work and some settled there.

The four metros include Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore and the 60 percent of women migrated have reported unfair discrimination and sexual harassment regularly.
