IMPHAL: A group of 31 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in Manipur has come together to address the ongoing violence in the state. In an official statement released by the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) Manipur, the MLAs unanimously resolved to urge Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take definitive action to bring about peace in the region.

The MLAs put forth a proposal to Shah, suggesting the replacement of the 9th Assam Rifles, the 22nd Assam Rifles, and the 37th Assam Rifles with other central security forces that are more inclined towards promoting unity within the state. They expressed concerns about the roles played by certain units of the Assam Rifles, which they believe pose a threat to the cause of unity in Manipur.

The representation to the Union Home Minister also emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation into the public display of firearms and ammunition during the Peace March held on July 5 in Churachandpur. The MLAs raised questions regarding the source and continuous availability of these arms, which they believe play a crucial role in perpetuating the violence. They expressed their concerns about the need to address this issue and prevent further replenishment of illegal weapons.

Furthermore, the MLAs urged the Home Minister to take stronger and more effective actions against armed insurgent and cross-border armed insurgent groups operating in Manipur. They emphasized the importance of restoring peace and normalcy in the state and reiterated their commitment to initiating decisive measures against these armed groups that have violated established ground rules of engagement. The MLAs believe that the persistence of the conflict is inconceivable without the support of such armed factions.

The MLAs also stressed the importance of halting violence in peripheral areas and called for a more proactive approach from central security forces to ensure lasting peace in the region. They expressed the need for extensive consultations with all stakeholders involved to work towards a peaceful solution once all forms of violence and aggression cease in these areas. Additionally, the MLAs highlighted the necessity of enhanced security measures, such as increased highway patrolling along NH2, to facilitate the safe transportation of goods for the people of Manipur. They also urged the expedited completion of border fencing along the Manipur section of the Indo-Myanmar border.

The group of 31 MLAs in Manipur has united to urge Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address the ongoing violence in the state. They have proposed the replacement of certain units of the Assam Rifles, called for a comprehensive investigation into the public display of firearms, and emphasized the need for stronger actions against armed insurgent groups.
