IMPHAL: Manipur CM on N Biren Singh informed that centre has ruled out the demands of 10 MLA’s separate administration which was raised after an ethnic clash in the state. On the other hand, Biren Singh met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and said that measures are being taken to ensure that militants who signed the 'suspension of operations' peace treaty return to their allocated camps.

Singh also urged people not to stage dharnas or demonstrations in light of the state's sensitive situation following race violence between the majority Meiteis and the Kukis earlier this month.

Taking on Twitter Manipur CM Singh on May 9 wrote “In a positive development, more than 20,000 people have been moved to safety, curfews were partially relaxed and confidence have been built among the public of the state. I hope we will be able to attain peace and get back to normal life very soon.

On the other hand, Manipur’s peace will be restored at any cost and he has conveyed the sentiments of the Manipur people to the central government.

Meanwhile, Meiteis make up around 53% of Manipur's population and dwell primarily in the Imphal Valley. Tribals—Nagas and Kukis—make up another 40% of the population and live in the hill districts.

10,000 Army and paramilitary forces were deployed to restore peace in the state.

The Manipur Meitei community assembled in enormous numbers at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on Sunday to demand the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), an operation to identify and expel illegal immigrants like Assam.

According to the demonstrators, Meiteis who have been living in Kuki-majority highlands have left and are unable to return, purportedly due to threats from Kuki militants hidden in the hills.

During the violence in Manipur, close to 70 people were killed, more than 230 were injured, and over 1700 buildings were destroyed, according to official data. Around 23,000 individuals were also displaced as a result of the fighting.
