PMO is now the Publicity Minister's Office: Rahul Gandhi

Guwahati: The Congress President Rahul Gandhi while interacting with the students in Imphal on Wednesday and sharpened his attack on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that he has relegated the PMO a 'Publicity Minister's Office' by indulging in 'mediocrity' in a highly sophisticated country.

The Congress Chief interacted with the students of Manipur State Film Development Society in the state capital and said that the party doesn't believe in cultural imperialism and it is of the view that one part of the country should not rule other parts as each state has its own voice which should be respected.

Later, interacting with the students, he said that this was not the case with the Narendra Modi government at the Centre and that every part of the country should be allowed to express itself. Gandhi said that the BJP-RSS combinations want to impose one idea and crush the other ideas and their heavy-handedness could be seen whenever there are protests.

Gandhi further said that his party's priority is to tackle the job crises and to increase the connectivity in the Northeastern region. He further added that the region is a potential manufacturing hub in the party's view and it is due to the shortage of storage space that the agricultural sector, food and vegetables are being wasted here.

The Congress President arrived at Imphal on Tuesday evening and on a two-day visit to the state to launch the party's election campaign.

On Tuesday evening, he held interactions with party workers after which he visited the Iconic all-women run market, Ima keithel.

The party is yet to announce candidates for both the constituency in the state although the formal notifications allowing filing of nomination papers for both the seats have been issued.

The last date for filing of nomination for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency is set on March 25 and the polling date is on April 11 and that of Inner Manipur is March 26 and the polling date is on April 18.

Former Chief Minister of Manipur, Okram Ibobi Singh, however, said that candidates for both the inner and outer parliamentary constituencies will be announced soon as the Chief Electoral Officer has already issued a definite time schedule for the 17th Lok Sabha election.
