Princess of Thailand to Grace Manipur's Sangai Festival 2018

Guwahati: Manipur is all geared for the 10-day tourism festival starting from November 21. The Manipur Sangai Festival 2018 would be held at three venues namely Keibul Lamjao, Imphal (Hapta Kangjeibung and Lamboikhongnangkhong) and Mao.

According to Chief Minister, N Biren Singh, The Princess of Thailand, Maha Chakri Sirindhornand Chief Ministers of Sagaing and Mandalay region of Myanmar Dr Myint Naing, will grace this year's Manipur SangaiFestival. For the first time in the history of Manipur, the U.S. Ambassador to India will also be present during the Festival, Singh, said.

A sum of Rs. 5 lakhs for the upcoming Manipur Sangai Festival 2018 is being sponsored by the Manipur State Cooperative Bank Limited (MSCB). The cheque was handed over to the Chief o Minister by the Managing Director of MSCB, A Subash Singh and other officials in the presence of Director Tourism W Ibohal Singh at a solemn ceremony held at Chief Minister’s Secretariat today.

Expressing his happiness, Chief Minister Biren said that it is a sign of positive development that people are extending their support and co-operation for the grand success of the upcoming Manipur Sangai Festival 2018. He also mentioned that more individuals and companies are approaching the

The Manipur State Cooperative Bank Limited becomes the second Diamond Sponsor for the upcoming mega Tourism Festival in the state. Earlier, the Panthoibi Housing Finance Company Limited had donated a sponsorship amount of Rs. 5 lakhs for the Festival.

Noteworthy that, the Sangai festival is an annual cultural festival organised by Manipur Tourism Department every year from November 21 to 30. Although the Festival has been organised by the department as Tourism Festival for the past many years now, the festival was rechristened as the Sangai Festival in reverence of the uniqueness of brow-antlered deer popularly known as the Sangai Deer, which also happens to be the state animal of Manipur. As this festival is being celebrated to promote Manipur as a world-class tourism destination, it showcases the best of what the state has to offer to the world in terms of art and culture, handloom, handicrafts & fine arts, indigenous sports, cuisines & music, eco & adventure sports as well as the scenic natural beauty of the land.

Manipur also holds pride in having the world’s only Floating National Park, The Keibul Lamjou National Park. Besides, the only Fresh Water lake of North-East, Loktak Lake is also in Manipur, which attracts a lot of tourist to the state every year.
