Prohibition on the use and sale of crackers in Imphal, Manipur

Imphal: The district administration of Imphal West, Manipur has imposed a ban on the sale and use of crackers during Durga Puja.

Under section 144, Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), district magistrate Naorem Praveen Singh prohibited the sale and use of crackers in connection with the Durga Puja festival on Saturday. The ban imposed on the sale and use of firecrackers are applicable in the whole area situated within the revenue district of Imphal West, Manipur.

The decision was taken keeping in view that the crackers are likely to cause serious annoyance or injury to the general public, and are dangerous to human lives and property.

Therefore, to maintain the peace of the area as well as its people, Singh imposed the ban on the sale and use of crackers from October 24 until the puja is over.
