IMPHAL: In a significant operation, a joint team of Indian paramilitary and state police detected and neutralized a cache of explosives on Tuesday, February 25. The explosive devices were planted by armed miscreants along the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district.
The operation was part of a search and area domination exercise in the fringe and vulnerable areas of the hill and valley districts. Acting on intelligence input, the team, comprising experts from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, Assam Rifles, and Manipur police, rushed to H Mongjang village under the Moreh police station.
The team uncovered explosives, including a 10-foot-long Pompi (84 mm), a Pompi improvised mortar (51 mm), three Pompi bombs, and three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) weighing approximately 5.5 kg each. However, all the devices were destroyed in situ, averting a potential major disaster in the district.
This operation is particularly significant given the recent history of ethnic clashes in the Tengnoupal district, which have claimed over 260 lives in the state since 2023. The successful neutralization of the explosives cache is a testament to the effectiveness of the joint operations and intelligence gathering by the security forces.
Meanwhile, security forces in Manipur seized 61 kg of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) with detonators in Tengnoupal, an Indo-Myanmar border district, while a large cache of illegal weapons, including assault rifles and ammunition, was surrendered in Churachandpur district on Saturday.
