IMPHAL: A group of high court judges, headed by Justice Bhushan R. Gavai, Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), will visit relief camps in Manipur on March 22.

The visit will be to determine the living standards of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and increase legal and humanitarian assistance in the state.

The delegation will be headed by Justices Surya Kant, Vikram Nath, MM Sundresh, KV Viswanathan, and N Kotiswar Singh. They will interact with the displaced persons, assess relief operations underway, and monitor projects to increase legal aid and healthcare services.

A statement by NALSA informed that this visit is in celebration of the Manipur High Court's 12th anniversary celebrations, highlighting the judiciary's penchant for social justice.

As part of the initiative, Legal Services and Medical Camps will be inaugurated virtually in all districts of Manipur by Justice Gavai. New legal aid clinics will also be established in Imphal East, Imphal West, and Ukhrul to make available legal assistance for the displaced in an accessible manner. Relief items of a primary nature will also be provided to address the displaced persons' basic needs.

One of the main areas of focus for the initiative is linking IDPs to government welfare programs to help them access healthcare, pension, employment schemes, and the rebuilding of identity documents. NALSA has already set up 273 Special Legal Aid Clinics in different relief camps in conjunction with the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA).

These clinics offer vital legal aid and assistance to displaced persons in overcoming legal issues and establishing their rights.
