Troops of the Army bids adieu to Sepoy Lungambui Abonmei from Manipur

GUWAHATI: The troops of the Army in a solemn ceremony bid final farewell to Sepoy Lungambui Abonmei as he was laid to rest with full military honours at Leimakhong in Imphal West District of Manipur on June 15. The soldier made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty along the LOC in the Poonch Sector of Jammu and Kashmir on June 13.

Earlier in the day, the mortal remains of Sepoy Abonmei were flown in from Delhi to Imphal. Before being taken to Leimakhong, serving troops paid their respects to the martyr in a wreath-laying ceremony at Tulihal Airport.

At 7.40 pm on June 15, the cortege of the martyred soldier was paid last respects by the local military commanders as the buglers sounded the Last Post. The Indian Tricolour was handed over to Elizabeth, the wife of late Sepoy Abonmei in the presence of host of relatives, friends and veterans of Leimakhong.
