2 Kidnapped From Residence of Nagaland Assembly Candidate

KOHIMA: Poll-related violence is on the rise in the state of Nagaland even after the deployment of security forces in the state.

In yet another incident of election-related violence in Nagaland, a group of unidentified miscreants broke into the residence of a candidate of the Naga People’s Front. They kidnapped two persons from the residence of the candidate and torched a vehicle nearby. The information was released by a senior official of Nagaland Police.

According to reports, one of the victims of the incident was released by the kidnappers while an operation to rescue the second victim is still being carried out by the police. They were not members of the political party but were staying in the residence of the Naga People’s Front.

“There was an incident of two persons being taken away from the residence of the Naga Peoples Front (NPF) candidate from Tizit assembly constituency last night,” mentioned the Superintendent of Police for the Mon district, T Uniel Kichu.

The police officer mentioned that a case has been registered regarding the incident and expressed hope of being able to capture the perpetrators soon. The state has seen several other violent incidents in the past few days.

Another incident took place in the Thonoknyu constituency of the Noklak district when a fight broke out between the supporters of the National People’s Party and the Lok Janshakti Party late on Sunday afternoon. Four people reportedly sustained injuries as the supporters of both parties engaged in stone pelting at each other.

A separate incident took place near Thoktsur in the Kiphire district of the state on the same day. One person was injured and five vehicles were damaged when unidentified people pelted stones at the convoy of the state president of the National People’s Party. Andrew Ahoto Sema was returning from an election rally when this incident took place.
