KOHIMA: An accident that took place on February 26 led to the death of one person and the injury of several others in the state of Nagaland. The people involved in the accident were related to Nagaland Legislative Assembly Elections which is taking place since Monday morning.

According to reports, a bus carrying polling officials and security personnel met with an accident in the Wokha district of Nagaland. The vehicle skidded out of control and fell into a valley. The driver of the vehicle was killed while thirteen others were reported to have sustained injuries in the accident. The injured people included 9 members of security forces as well.

The Director General of Police for Nagaland had mentioned that the unfortunate incident had taken place on the afternoon of Sunday. He mentioned, "Driver killed and 13 injured after a bus carrying polling and security personnel fell from the hill into a jungle in Wokha district on Sunday afternoon. Injured include 8 personnel of Jharkhand armed police and 1 of Nagaland Armed police."

A replacement team was immediately dispatched from the reserve officials to ensure that the polling operation goes on as planned. According to local reports, some of the injured people had to be airlifted to Dimapur for proper medical care after the accident.

The voting for the 59 seats out of a total of 60 began at 7 AM on Monday and it will continue till 4 PM. The luck of 183 candidates affiliated with over 10 local and national political parties and independent candidates will be decided by the voters of the state today. The Bharatiya Janata Party Candidate for Akuluto legislative assembly constituency, Kazheto Kinimi was declared the winner due to the lack of any competitor for his seat. 1317632 voters are expected to cast their votes today.
