COVID-19 lab inaugurated in Dimapur, 2nd in Nagaland

Guwahati: The Nagaland Government today inaugurated a Bio-Safety Level 2 (BSL-2) laboratory at the Christian Institute Of Health Sciences & Research (CIHSR), thereby adding more teeth to its fight against the Covid-19 contagion.

The much-anticipated lab was inaugurated by Nagaland Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom, who was also accompanied by Public Health Engineering Minister Jacob Zhimomi. "Inaugurated the BSL-2 Lab at CIHSR, Dimapur today for the people of Nagaland. Accompanied by Shri Jacob Zhimomi & Hon'ble Colleagues & Department Officers. The Lab will enhance the testing capacity on COVID-19 & help test other diseases in the long run", Phom wrote on Twitter, moments after flagging off the facility.

The Ministers and officials interacted with the CIHSR fraternity while inaugurating the BSL-2 lab. Zhimomi opined that the inauguration of the 2nd bio testing laboratory in the state will augment the existing testing capacity.

Nagaland on May 22 got its first state-of-the-art laboratory for testing of suspected COVID-19 samples, officials said. Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio inaugurated the bio-safety level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK). The state has so far reported 375 Covid-19 positive cases, out of which 213 are active and 162 are recovered cases.
