KOHIMA: On Tuesday, the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) organized its first Regional Board Meeting and an Awareness-cum-Outreach Programme in Kohima, Nagaland. The event aimed to disseminate information about the ESI Scheme to stakeholders and beneficiaries while gathering ground-level feedback to enhance service delivery and healthcare under the scheme across the state.

The programme was graced by several dignitaries, including Moatoshi Longkumer, Advisor and Chairman & Minister of Labour, Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of Nagaland; P. Sotsula, Commissioner & Secretary, LESDE; and Anoop Khinchi, Commissioner & Secretary, Health & Family Welfare. The event also saw the participation of employer and employee representatives.

The ESI Scheme, which offers social security and health insurance benefits to workers, has been implemented in 63 districts across the North Eastern states. In Nagaland, eight districts—Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Chumoukedima, Niuland, Tseminyu, Wokha, and Zunheboto—are currently covered under the scheme. As the scheme is relatively new in many areas of the North East, awareness remains limited. The event was thus organized to bridge this knowledge gap and sensitize workers and their families about the scheme’s benefits.

A large number of employers, employees, and representatives from employers’ associations and employees’ unions attended the awareness programme, stated a press release.
