European choir school to partner with Nagaland's TaFMA to promote youth though music

Guwahati: On the auspicious occasion of 'Gandhi Jayanti' (Oct 2), Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio has declared that henceforth, there will be institutional partnership between Riga Cathedral Choir School, Latvia and Nagaland's Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA)

"On this day the second of October, 2020, Shri Neiphiu Rio Hon'ble Chief Minister of Nagaland, India and HE Artis Bertulis Ambassador of Latvia to India announce the partnership between Riga Cathedral Choir School, Latvia, and Task Force for Music and Arts -- Nagaland, India as -- Institutional Partners and will pursue ways and means for artistic pursuits and exchange of knowledge between Latvia and Nagaland, India,", read a joint statement undersigned by the Latvian Ambassador and Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.

Announcing this development on Twitter, Rio wrote, "I congratulate the institutional partnership between Riga Cathedral Choir School, Latvia and @TafmaNaga India. I thank HE @ArtisBertulis, Ambassador of @LVinIndia for his initiative. I am confident that this venture will fulfill our aspiration of promoting our youth though music (sic)."

The TaFMA, with noted musician Theja Maru as its adviser, has been set up by the Nagaland government with an aim of making Nagaland the Centre of music and arts.

Born out of long-standing and well- established Music Task Force (MTF), the newly formed Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA) has been in action since 2019 with a keen eye on how to promote the artists in Nagaland, be it its choirs, singer-songwriters, filmmakers, painters, or others.

Meru, the adviser of the body, has often stated that music and are soft powers of the Northeast Indian state.

Earlier, music maestro A R Rahman's music institution KM Music Conservatory became a knowledge partner for the Nagaland government's TaFMA in order to empower the musicians of the state and help them achieve greater heights.
