DIMAPUR: In a recent development towards the education sector of northeastern states, the American multinational technology company IBM has taken the major decision of expanding its STEM initiative for Girls in Nagaland.

The International Business Machines (IBM) Corporation in a recent announcement informed about its collaboration with the Dept. of School Education for the introduction of IBM STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) for Girls program.

The collaboration is part of a 3-year program between the Nagaland government and IBM for the increase of girls' and women's participation in STEM programs.

The program will be introduced in more than 250 secondary and higher secondary schools that are located in 15 districts of Nagaland.

This new curriculum will come in alignment and supplementation with the effort of the state of Nagaland towards quality education.

The objective of the STEM for Girls program is a step for the improvement of girls' education and their career pathways in various schools across the world.

The IBM on expanding STEM for Girls initiative in Nagaland said that the program will be enabling more than 12,000 girls studying between 8th and 10th classes with accessibility to digital fluency, training of coding, 21st-century skills that include career and life guidance.

The program further aims to empower about 1400 teachers in schools that participate in getting engaged and training students on STEM, girls agency development and computational thinking.

The Educators will be using IBM SkillsBuild which provides online coursework and tools for the engagement of the students.

IBM Managing director Sandip Patel stated that by expanding STEM in Nagaland, the corporation has moved a step ahead in the expansion of its footprints to twelve states across India.

It is a part of a groundbreaking commitment by IBM to provide new skills of jobs for future to at least 30 million people and through this engagement, the students beyond metros will be skilled to talent pool from various cities and states.

It may be mentioned that at present the IBM STEM for Girls programs has been functioning in 12 Indian states that include Assam, Nagaland, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Odisha, Uttarkhand and Nagaland.
