Incessant rains killed two, affecting many in Dimapur and Phek districts of Nagaland

GUWAHATI: Incessant rains during the past 36 hours in Nagaland have caused extensive damage in parts of the Dimapur and Phek districts of Nagaland.

Two people have been reportedly killed while two others sustained injuries during this heavy rain.

According to reports, Nagaland received a total rainfall of 809.75 mm in the past two days.

Over 8,000 people have been reportedly affected as 13 villages in Dimapur district have been flooded with many houses being submerged.

The rescue operation is being carried out by the Search and rescue teams of Dimapur District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Home Guard & Civil Defense, Army, and 5th Assam Rifles across the affected villages of the district.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio visited the affected areas of Dimapur district.

According to the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), low-lying areas of 13 villages in Dimapur district and Phek, the headquarter town of Phek district, were submerged by rainwater.

As said by NSDMA Secretary Lhouchalie Viya, one person died due to wall collapse in Dimapur district while a woman drowned in Phek town on Saturday,

Viya also added that two others were injured in wall collapse in Phek.

Some of the affected villages severely affected by the floods are Tuolazouma, Bade, Tsithrongse, Seluophe, Naharbari, Darogajan, Domokhia, Purana Bazaar B, Purana Bazaar Model Colony, Khushiabil, Siethekema Basa, Thahekhu, Imkonglenden, Kuhuboto, Khopanala, Sangtamtila and Urra Colony. Four houses at Sangtamtila were swept away by the floodwaters.

The rescue teams have rescued 131 people from three locations in Dimapur district.
