GUWAHATI: Kishan Rail Special Train between Tarakeswar and Dimapur has been introduced by the Indian Railways. The first such Kishan Rail left on Friday and reached Dimapur on Saturday. The Kishan Rail Special Train to and from Dimapur will run till July 30, 2021.

This is another new initiative taken by the Indian Railways to serve the peasants. The 00329 Tarakeswar-Dimapur Kishan Rail Special Train (weekly) will leave Tarakeswar at 10:00 hours every Friday to reach Dimapur the next day; and during the return journey, the 00330 Dimapur -Tarakeswar Kishan Rail Special Train (weekly) will leave Dimapur at 21:30 hours every Saturday from January 30, .2021 and reach Tarakeswar at 7:10 hours. on Monday.

The train will stop at Bandel, Ambika Kalna, Nabadwip Dham, Purbasthali, Katwa, Azimgunge, Azimgunge City, Malda Town, New Jalpaiguri, New Coochbehar, New Bongaingaon, Guwahati and Lumding enroute in both directions for loading/unloading of parcels.

As per the announcement made in the Union Budget 2020-21, the Indian Railways has started running Kisan Rail train services, to transport perishables and agri-product, including milk, meat and fish. The primary objective of running Kisan Rail trains is to increase the income in the Farm sector by connecting the production centers to the markets and consumption centers.

The first Kisan Rail train was flagged-off on 07.08.2020 between Devlali (Maharastra) and Danapur (Bihar). These Kisan Rail trains are run on time-tabled paths, and their punctuality is strictly being monitored to avoid any en-route detentions and delays. These services have been introduced on 18 (eighteen) routes so far.

This is multi-commodity, multi-consignor/consignee, multi-loading/unloading transportation product which is aimed at providing wider market to Kisan. Primary commodities being transported via Kisan Rail are onion, tomato, oranges, potato, pomegranate, banana, custard-apple, carrots, capsicum, and other vegetables. A subsidy of 50% is being granted on th transportation of fruits and vegetables via Kisan Rail, stated a release.
