Indo-Naga political Issue 'Back on Table': NSCN-IM

KOHIMA: The National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM), recently claimed that the Indo-Naga political issue is back on the table with an effort to remove any misinterpretation and thereby hasten the signing of the Naga solution agreement.

In a press release issued by its Ministry of Information and Publicity, it said the historic "Framework Agreement (FA)" signed on August 3, 2015 is being brought back to the table and further proceedings will continue for paving a way towards a final solution.

The group also criticized the Nagaland Governor cum Centre's interlocutor for Naga talks, RN Ravi's statement, regarding the peace talks, and slammed him for creating "unnecessary confusion" with his "reckless statement" in the Nagaland Assembly wherein he said that the Indo-Naga political talks have concluded.

"It is needless to say that in many points his statements and conclusions reflected his role as Nagaland Governor and not as Interlocutor. It is a matter of regret that his role as interlocutor is nothing less than disparaging and dismal," the release stated.

Highlighting the Centre's stand, the NSCN stated that the Central Government has confirmed that the status of Indo-Naga Peace Talks is in an advanced stage, during the last Parliamentary Session.

However, it termed Ravi's remark as contradictory as he stated that the talks have concluded.

"No doubt, this is the ground reality of the Indo-Naga political talk and NSCN talk team is leaving no stone unturned to safeguard the political identity of the Naga people," it stated.

Terming it as unfortunate, the release stated Ravi's misleading statement before the nation is blatantly contradicting the GoI and the Indian Parliament besides the 136 crores Indians and the world community in the matter of such sensitive Indo-Naga political negotiations going on for more than two decades.

"In the matter of Naga political issue he should be cautious of every single word he uttered lest his credibility is damned," it added.

The Indo-Naga political talk, it said, is being handled by both the parties to take the Naga people and the Government of India to the point that is honorable and acceptable.

"This is the official understanding and the only way to conclude the talk. NSCN, therefore, under no circumstances will fail the Naga people and will never sign any agreement that is short of the mutual standard as agreed upon," it added.
