Kohima-Dimapur 4-Lane to be Completed Within the Year: Gadkari

KOHIMA: Kohima and Dimapur are two very important points of communication as well as commerce in the state of Nagaland in Northeast India and a new project is underway to improve the connectivity between the two important cities.

During a session of the Nagaland Assembly this year, the chief minister of the state mentioned that the governments are still struggling to complete the project after almost 20 years of its announcement during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee regime. He also put the blame on the frequent changes of governments and difficulties faced during the accusation of land necessary for this project.

The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways has announced the ongoing project of the nearly 15 km long four-lane road will be completed within this year. Nitin Gadkari made this announcement over Twitter Tuesday, December 6. He wrote, "The 14.93 Km project of 4-Lane from Dimapur to Kohima Road (Package-I) in the state of Nagaland will be completed this year. The investment in this project is of Rs. 387 Crores".

This road will not only improve communication and reduce travel time between the two cities of Dimapur and Kohima, but also help the citizens of both Nagaland and Manipur. Thus leading to increased development in the two states.

The union minister also mentioned that the government is working under the leadership of the prime minister towards provisioning improved connectivity and better road infrastructure in the country.

The current government had allotted package one of the projects in September of 2016 and it was due for completion within three years. But unpredictable and extreme weather conditions as well as the covid pandemic resulted in severe delays in the ongoing project. A shortage of necessary resources was also cited as a reason for the delay, which is finally coming to an end.
