Dimapur: As the holiday season begins, DAYO has voiced alarm about a rise in extortion and intimidation reports that target government workers, business institutions, livelihood earners, and entrepreneurs. Any organisation that targets the Ao population in Dimapur and the surrounding areas with extortion or unlawful taxation is strongly condemned by the Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO).

DAYO stressed that it will enforce the December 2018 resolution of its apex, Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur (ASTD), which forbids any kind of intimidation or threat against its legitimate members. This will be handled by both the law as it stands and customary law and practice.

It further stated that DAYO has been an unwavering advocate and defender of the idea of "One Government, One Tax," which is a collective public resolution and mandate of the people.

The group urged everyone in the Ao community to be watchful and stand together in the face of extortion and unlawful taxation. For timely and appropriate response, it further encouraged individuals to report similar incidents by calling the DAYO Helpline, 8974851911.

“We appeal to all fellow Nagas and citizens of Dimapur to work unitedly to emancipate from all forms of socio-economic injustice and to ensure a just and peaceful environment during this season of love and peace,” it added.
