Nagaland Extends Lockdown by Another 7 Days till June 18

Kohima: Nagaland's High-Powered Committee (HPC) has announced the extension of the lockdown for another seven days after a thorough discussion with all district task forces. As reported, the lockdown, which was extended till June 11, has been further extended till June 18.

Mmhonlumo Kikon, the Nagaland government spokesperson, said that the extended lockdown will also see further relaxations. He posted a tweet to inform about the development of extended lockdown. He tweeted, "The High Power Committee after thorough discussion with all the District Task Forces has decided to extend the lockdown till June 18 with further relaxations. Respective DTFs will issue necessary orders for relaxations as per the situation in the districts!"

However, the Naga Students' Federation (NSF) on Monday appealed to the state government not to shut down stationery and book stores amid the extended lockdown. The apex students' body made the appeal with the hope that opening of stationery shops and book stores will help students to procure their basic requirements.

Through a release, NSF president Kegwayhun Tep and general secretary Supuni Ng Philo also urged the state government to maintain transparency in utilisation of COVID-19 funds. Moreover, on Sunday, demanding that the ruling People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) government 'immediately address the plight of the people,' opposition party Naga People's Front (NPF) warned that 'starvation war will destroy the whole state.'

On May 31, the Commissioner of Police Dimapur, Rothihu Tetso, informed that the Odd-Even traffic system in Dimapur district will continue to remain operative till June 11, 2021, as Nagaland extended complete lockdown till June 11, 2021. According to the notification, only essential movement of all vehicles within Dimapur district should continue to ply on the Odd-Even system till June 11, 2021.
