KOHIMA: The Global Naga Forum (GNF) has expressed profound grief over the sudden death of Nigel Richard Goodman, a 67-year-old tourist from Bradford, UK. Goodman tragically passed away on the evening of December 7 while attending Nagaland's iconic Hornbill Festival at Kisama.
In an official statement, the GNF condoled and said that Goodman's visit was indeed a true honor underscoring the global recognition of their cultural heritage, adding, "His presence during the festival was in fact a testament to the international significance of our festival.".
The forum extends its deepest condolences to Goodman's family and friends. The group had lost a very precious guest at a time that should have been for celebration and union. "Unfortunately, such an incident occurred amidst the joyous Hornbill Festival and as the community prepares for the Christmas season," the GNF said. "This reminds us of the delicate nature of life, even in moments of happiness.
The GNF called on the Nagaland authorities to handle Goodman's remains with dignity and respect. "Such acts will represent the true spirit of Naga hospitality and respect extended to guests, thus earning goodwill in the world," the statement added.
The forum concluded by offering prayers for Goodman's soul, hoping that the bereaved family would find comfort and strength. "May his soul find eternal peace, and may his loved ones find solace in this time of loss," the message added.
