Nagaland: Man sentenced to life imprisonment in rape and murder case of 4-year-old

On April 4, 2015, the accused identified as Chandra Mardi had raped and murdered a 4-year-old whose body was found the next day.

According to the special public prosecutor, Hutoi Yeptho, who conducted the prosecution, the convicted man was a laborer involved in construction work at the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research in Dimapur.

The accused has been convicted under section 302 IPC and sentenced to life imprisonment, under Section 376 (2) (i) IPC for 10 years of imprisonment and under section 6 POCSO Act for 10 years imprisonment and also ordered for payment of compensation under section 357-A CrPC to be made to the victim's parents.
