DIMAPUR: Advisor for Labour, Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and Excise, Moatoshi Longkumer, MLA, inaugurated a state-of-the-art Radio Diagnostic Centre (RDC) at the District Hospital Dimapur (DHD) on Saturday.

The facility, established under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, is a collaboration between Tikvah Healthcare Private Limited (THPL) and the state Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) department.

Speaking at the inaugural event, Longkumer hailed the initiative as a milestone for DHD and a beacon of hope for the citizens of Dimapur, particularly the underprivileged. He emphasized the financial burden families face due to the high cost of diagnostic services.

“Diagnostic services such as X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, and Ultrasounds are often expensive, pushing families into financial distress during medical emergencies. This new diagnostic centre will provide timely and accurate diagnoses, enabling doctors to detect illnesses early and begin treatment promptly,” Longkumer stated.

The advisor also highlighted that the facility would reduce the need for patients to seek costly private services or travel to distant cities for diagnostic tests, saving both time and money. He called on all stakeholders, medical professionals, hospital staff, and the community to ensure the centre achieves its goal of making healthcare more accessible.

THPL Director, Benthuno Kithan, described the centre as a “symbol of hope and care” for Nagaland. “Dimapur is more than just a business hub; it is a lifeline for many, including those from neighbouring states seeking advanced healthcare,” Kithan said.

Kithan shared that the facility aims to provide diagnostic services on par with those in major cities but at significantly lower costs. He revealed that services at the RDC would be offered at rates 20% to 42% lower than market prices to ease the financial burden on patients. Plans to introduce MRI services in the second phase of the project were also announced.

The RDC currently provides CT scan, ultrasound, and X-ray services. According to Kithan, the centre operates under the invest, operate, and transfer scheme, with THPL managing the facility for 25 years before transferring it to the hospital. “All staff at the centre will be under THPL’s payroll, and after 25 years, the responsibility will revert to the state government,” he said.

On the centre’s profit-sharing model, Kithan disclosed that THPL had negotiated with the state government to share 10% of profits starting after two years of operation.

The inaugural programme was chaired by RDC Manager, Dr. Edwin Thungbemo Humtsoe, with an invocation by DHD Fellowship Chaplain, Rev. Yhunlo Thong, and a short speech by DHD Medical Superintendent, Dr. Keveduyi Theyo.
