KOHIMA: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has expressed concern over the fact that there have been no updates since Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other central leaders recently.

The meeting convened to address threats from the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah) [NSCN (I-M)] to possibly resume armed struggle, has reportedly left the state in a state of "deep concern and confusion."

In a statement issued by its Communications Department, the NPCC expressed disappointment with the absence of any official communication from the state government regarding the meeting's outcome. "The conspicuous silence following the Chief Minister's Cabinet delegation meeting… is failing to address the widespread concern and confusion gripping the public," the NPCC noted.

The NPCC called it a grave issue while saying that the public must not be kept in the dark. "In the light of such gravity of the situation, it was well expected that Chief Minister and other cabinet members will update the public at large about the outcome of such a meeting," it said.

The party also raised alarms over the absence of reassurances from the government regarding the state of the ongoing Naga peace process. "The lack of a positive message, reassuring the public that efforts are underway to resolve differences and uphold the decades-long Naga Political Peace Process, is deeply troubling," it added.

The government's silence, the NPCC feels, might result in an atmosphere where misinformation and mistrust would grow. "This lack of communication may create an atmosphere where perhaps incorrect impressions get amplified among the people," the party said, seeking the state leadership to respond to the issue immediately.

The statement by the NPCC is a pointer to the urgency of the need for transparency and proactive communication in keeping public confidence in Nagaland in this sensitive political atmosphere.
