Nagaland: NSCN K-NK militant killed in encounter in Zunheboto

Guwahati: Indian armed forces on September 9 apprehended two active cadres of the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim K (NK) near Bhaimo village, Zunehoboto, out of which one cadre was killed in an ensuing encounter.

During a search operation, based on specific inputs about the movement of armed cadres in Bhaimo village in Zunehoboto, the security forces column was fired upon by unknown insurgents, armed forces said in a statement.

Officials said that after an exchange of fire, two cadres were apprehended, including one in injured condition. The injured cadre was immediately evacuated to the district hospital by the police, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The apprehended persons were later identified as cadres of the proscribed outfit NSCN- K(NK). Security personnel have recovered one 9mm pistol, two magazines, four fired cartridge cases, and 23 live rounds.

Two local men apprehended at the site were later released to their parents in the presence of the police, officials said.
