
KOHIMA: Nagaland Police conducted a major anti-drug operation, destroying narcotics worth over Rs 35 crore in Dimapur and Mon districts, according to officials on Saturday.
According to police sources, the destroyed contraband included brown sugar, heroin, crystal meth, Yaba tablets, cough syrup bottles, and opium straw.
Led by the District Drug Disposal Committee in Dimapur, the initiative resulted in the destruction of drugs valued at Rs 34.82 crore on Friday. Officials reported that narcotics worth Rs 22.5 lakh were also destroyed in Mon district following the committee's verification of the seized contraband on January 4.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, a significant quantity of seized drugs had been destroyed in Baghora in the presence of the Drugs Disposal Committee. The destroyed items had included 1981.8 grams of heroin, 14.44 grams of brown sugar, 238.398 kilograms of cannabis, 244 bottles of cough syrup, and 335 tablets. The total value of the seized drugs had been estimated at Rs. 5.21 crore.
The destruction had been carried out as part of an ongoing anti-narcotics operation to combat drug trafficking and ensure that seized narcotics did not enter the market.
In another operation, the South Salmara Police had carried out a major operation against drug trafficking, seizing 252 grams of heroin worth Rs. 2 crore after receiving reliable intelligence.
