DIMAPUR: The repair work on the road over bridge (ROB) near the Dimapur District Sports Council (DDSC) complex is nearing completion and will be ready for use by the end of January. Litangba Sangtam, project manager, Innovative Construction, said that the work included the demolition and reconstruction of the first two approach spans of the bridge.

Demolition work began in October of last year, allowing for the construction of reinforced earth (RE) walls and pre-fabricated RE blocks on the two spans. The newly reconstructed bridge now measures 10.2 meters in width, featuring a 7.1-meter roadway and 1.5-meter-wide footpaths on both sides. Additionally, the approach road has been widened by approximately one meter compared to its previous structure.

Sangtam noted that the bridge structure is complete, and only minor tasks are remaining, like steel hand railings along the footpaths and the blacktopping of the bridge. Originally scheduled to be completed in six months, administrative directives accelerated the project within just four months.

The repair work is being carried out by the PWD National Highway Division at an estimated cost of Rs 2.68 crore. After the completion of the repair work, it is expected that the connectivity will be significantly improved and long-standing traffic congestion problems plaguing the city will be solved.
