Nagaland: Two Assam Rifles Jawans Injured In Encounter In State's Mon District

Mon: Two jawans of Assam Rifles were injured in an encounter that broke out between the latter and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) in Nagaland's Mon district here on Sunday.

The two injured jawans were rushed to Jorhat Air Force Hospital for further treatment.

In a similar incident, on August 9, a massive encounter took place between troopers of Assam Rifles and militants of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) and the NSCN along the Indo-Myanmar border.

Reportedly, the insurgent groups ambushed three camps of the Assam Rifles, and this cross-firing incident, which comes just days ahead of the Independence Day celebration, left one naib subedar with minor injuries.

In the said encounter, one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) sustained a minor injury to his hand.

The encounter apparently broke out at around 3 in the morning. Changlang Superintendent of Police (SP) Mihin Gambo confirmed the incident by saying that firing was reported from the Pangsau Pass area this morning.

"It is immediately not known which insurgent groups were involved in the attack," SP Gambo said.

Meanwhile, a massive operation was launched by the security forces along the Indo-Myanmar border in Changlang district.

Recently, Assam Rifles have conducted massive operations against the insurgent groups in the Tirap, Longding, and Changlang regions of Arunachal Pradesh and have managed to catch several NSCN cadres.

Notably, the Pangsau Pass area happens to be one of the remotest areas in Arunachal Pradesh and it shares boundaries with Myanmar. Most of the insurgent groups of the Northeast have set up their camps in the jungles of Myanmar and its militants stealthily sneak into Arunachal Pradesh through jungle routes.
