Guwahati: Nagaland health minister S Pangnyu Phom, who has been undergoing quarantine at a facility quarantine centre since July 16 after returning from an official visit to New Delhi, has tested negative for the COVID-19.

"I have been tested for COVID-19 today and the result came out negative. I will be discharged from the Facility Quarantine Centre today. However, all necessary precaution measures will be strictly adhered as per the SOPs issued by the Government", Phom informed via a tweet.

The Nagaland Health Minister has been tested thrice for the COVID-19 virus and has tested negative all 3 times. After it came to light that driver and some other staffs had tested positive for the dreaded virus in Nagaland House, New Delhi, the alarm was sounded. Phom, who had gone to Delhi along with other legislators (including Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton) was tested. All the legislators tested negative in New Delhi. Phom was again tested on July 16 upon return to Nagaland and again tested negative for the virus.

This incident has come to light merely days after Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio too revealed that he has tested negative for the dreaded virus. Rio, who has been in self-quarantine since a recent trip to national capital New Delhi, on Saturday confirmed that he has tested negative for the COVID-19 virus. "I have tested negative for COVID-19. However, I will continue to be vigilant, take all necessary precautions and complete the quarantine period", Rio wrote in a tweet.
