Due to a spike in the COVID-19 cases and in order to curb the spread of the infection, night curfew has been imposed in Kohima with effect from 7 PM on May 5.

Kohima- The Nagaland State government has imposed night curfew in Nagaland's capital Kohima with effect from 7 PM on May 5. 

This decision was keeping in mind the surge in the number of cases of the novel coronavirus in the capital city. In an attempt to curb the spread of this deadly infectious disease, night curfew from 7 PM to 6 AM has been announced in Kohima which will be in effect from the 5th of May. 

On the 3rd of May, the State Home Ministry passed the order which was then discussed in a meeting with the district task force (DTF) on the 4th of May, and finally implemented in Kohima on the 5th of May.

However, during the curfew hours, the movement of medical, emergency, and essential services, including pharmacies, movement of good vehicles through good carriers/trucks shall be permitted. 

This order, which will come into effect from the 5th of May 7 PM onwards, will remain in force until further notice is issued by the state government. 

Any person violating the orders shall be penalized as per the provision of section 51 to 60 of the disaster management act 2005 besides legal actions under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code. 

Nagaland, on Tuesday, recorded the single-day highest spike in the cases of the novel coronavirus with 266 fresh COVID-19 cases pushing the total tally of caseload to 14,727. Three COVID-induced fatalities have been reported from the state taking the total death toll in the state to 118. The amount of active caseload in the state now amounts to 1,798. 

Nagaland Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom in a tweet said, "266 +ve cases detected today. Dimapur-162, Kohima-71, Tuensang-11, Mon-8, Peren- Mokokchung-4 each, Longleng-3, Kiphire- Phek- Zunheboto- 1 each. And, 32 +ve patients have recovered. Dimapur-17, Phek-8, Tuensang-3, Kohima- Mokokchung- 2 each."  Read more
